Bird Strikes Pokhara-bound Buddha Air ATR During Landing

December 26, 2016 – Pokhara

Buddha Air’s ATR42 aircraft encountered a bird strike during its final approach into Pokhara earlier today. The flight U4-612 was being operated by the aircraft registered 9N-AIT. The plane made a safe landing, and all passengers and crew members are safe.

Issuing a statement on its Facebook page, Buddha Air said that the bird hit the plane when it was landing in Pokhara at around 11:20 in the morning. The incident was reported to Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) and is being investigated. The plane suffered minor damage and was sent for detailed inspection. Due to this, flights for the day might be delayed.

The airline also said that these types of incidents occur due to mismanagement of waste. It also urged all concerned people and CAAN to co-operate with each others to help manage the waste properly so as to prevent these incidents from happening again.

Buddha Air has 8 turboprop planes (including 3 ATR42 aircrafts) in its fleet. It has signed an MOU with ATR to acquire two more ATR72 aircrafts in 2017.
